Existential interpretation is the interpretation of an indefinite noun phrase as an existential quantifier. In (i) the indefinite noun phrase has an existential interpretation because its logical paraphrase involves an existential quantifier ("there is an x").

(i) a  John ate a donut
    b  There is an x, x a donut, such that John ate x
