Sentence is a very basic grammatical term that stands for the largest unit of grammar. When several sentences are combined, a text (a non-grammatical entity) results. A sentence is a maximal clause, i.e. a clause that is not part of another clause.
Term properties
The relational adjective is sentential.
Polysemy
The term sentence is also commonly used in the same sense as clause; see sentence (i.e. clause).
