The term sentence is sometimes used as a synonym of clause.
Comments
Note that other European languages do not have the clause/sentence distinction. Where English fails to make the distinction, this may be due to influence from these other languages.
Polysemy
Sentence can also mean 'maximal clause'; see sentence.
