A morpheme is the smallest unit of language that holds meaning.

For example; 'kangaroo' is one morpheme and 'kangaroos' is two morphemes. 'Kangaroo' and 'plural-s'. 'S', holds the meaning on 'many' or 'more then one' in this statement.
