Dimension

The term (inflectional) dimension is sometimes used in the same sense as (inflectional) category-system.

• "[...] a property that does seem to be specific to inflection is that inflectional categories are often naturally grouped together into supercatgeories that we will call inflectional dimensions. Two categories belong to the same dimension if they share a semantic (or more generally, functional) property and are mutually exclusive. For instance, the English present and past tenses [...] are categories of the dimension 'tense'." (Haspelmath 2002:61)
