In phonetics, co-intrinsic characteristics of sounds are caused by the influence of neighbouring sounds.
Subtypes
Co-intrinsic pitch: the pitch of a vowel is higher when the vowel follows a voiceless consonant than when it follows a voiced consonant.
Co-intrinsic duration: the duration of a vowel preceding a voiceless consonant is shorter than when the same vowel precedes a voiced consonant.
