Accent is primarily a change of pitch indicating that a certain element in an utterance is more prominent than others. Normally, apart from a pitch change, accent is also accompanied by increased duration and increased amplitude of the accented element. Sentence or utterances may as well have two or more accented elements.

What did Peter buy?
He bought a BOOK.
