Definition

Analysis-by-synthesis is a term that is used in the situation: when attempting to synthesise certain speech sounds, one can find out whether previous knowledge about these speech sounds was correct. Apart from that, the resulting synthesised sounds provide new insights, and speech synthesis is therefore a method of speech analysis.
