Automatic Speech Recognition refers to Systems that imitate speech perception processes.

Subtypes

There are two types of speech recognition systems:

  • Speech-to-text system (Automatic Speech Recognition): this type of systems is used to recognise the linguistic units and converts them into written text (a dictation machine).
  • Speech-to-concept-system (Automatic Speech Understanding): This type of systems is used to extract the intention of the utterance of the speaker.
