Barrieren-Theorie (engl. barrier 'Grenze'; auch: Syntaktische Grenze) ist nach N. Chomsky (1986) benanntes Entwicklungsstadium der Generativen Grammatik.
Die Barrieren-Theorie formuliert als Weiterentwicklung der Rektions-Bindungs-Theorie gemeinsame Grundlagen für Rektions- und Bindungsphänomene. Hierbei präzisiert eine komplexe Definition der Barriere den Begriff der Insel und soll der Erfassung einheitlicher Beschränkungen für Move α, Bindung (Bindungstheorie) und Rektion dienen.
