Bracketed grids

In phonology, bracketed grids are a representation of stress combining aspects of grid (only) theory and tree (only) theory.

Example

The stress pattern of the English word apalachicola can be represented by the following bracketed grid (cf. Halle & Vergnaud, 1987):

Comment

Grids as hierarchically layered structures are provided with constituent information indicated by parentheses.
