An intransitive verb is a verb that does not require an object, i.e. it requires only a subject. The term 'intransitive' subsumes monovalent predicates and avalent ones.

Examples

  • monovalent (intransitive) predicate: snores in John snores
  • avalent (intransitive) predicate: rains in It rains'
