In phonology, a low vowel is a vowel that is produced with the tongue at a level close to the bottom of the oral cavity and lower than mid vowels. In addition, the jaw may also be lowered to increase the volume of the oral cavity, enhancing the acoustic features that distinguish low vowels from other heights.
