In the generative grammar of the 1960s, the term pronominalization referred to a transformation that replaced a repeated occurrence of a noun phrase by an anaphoric pronoun. The term is no longer current, as it is no longer common to account for the occurrence of anaphoric pronouns by a transformational rule.
