A question is a kind of sentence or clause by which the speaker asks the hearer for information.
The corresponding relational adjective is interrogative.
Embedded questions are not strictly speaking sentences by which the speaker asks for information, but they are nevertheless usually regarded as a subtype of questions.

- echo question
- embedded question, indirect question
- leading question
- polar question, yes-no question
The term question (Lation quaestio) goes back to antiquity. Its exact origin cannot be determined because the term is also used outside linguistics.
