Robert Anderson Hall, Jr. (1911 April 4 – 1997 December 2) was an American linguist who made notable contributions to pidgin and creole languages and Romance linguistics.

Life

Hall was born in Raleigh, North Carolina. He received a B.A. from Princeton University in 1931, the degree Dottore in lettere from the University of Rome, and an M.A. from the University of Chicago in 1935.

He taught at the University of Puerto Rico, Princeton University and Brown University before he moved to Cornell University in 1946, where he remained until his retirement in 1976.
