Semantic typology is the study of the ways in which languages differ in categorizing experience into concepts. In other words, it is the study of meaning (semantics) using the cross-linguistic methodology of typology.

  • "Semantic typology is the comparative study of linguistic categorization—research into how linguistic representations structure a given cognitive domain across languages." (Bohnemeyer et al. 2007:495)
