Noun clause

A noun clause is a clause that functions in the same way as a noun phrase, i.e. generally as an argument, so that noun clause is basically a synonym of complement clause.

• "Noun clauses are clausal noun phrases. They are subordinate clauses that perform within the larger sentence...the same functions as noun phrases, i.e. those of subject, object, etc." (Göksel & Kerslake 2005:404)

This term seems to be older than complement clause. It appears to be found primarily in descriptive works.
