About
This table lists the approximately 1000 languoids that have more than 100,000 speakers according to census data. The list has been compiled and computed using data from Ethnologue, publicly available census data, and "glossorama", an unpublished database by Mikael Parkvall. The information in this list is the same as the one featured in the appendix of the third edition of David Crystal's "Encyclopedia of Language", 2010, the difference is only in formatting and sortability.
Abbreviations
- C - Central
- E - East(ern)
- N - North(ern)
- PNG - Papua New Guinea
- Rep. - Republic
- S - South(ern)
- W - West(ern)
The Table
(*) Serbian, Croatian, and Bosnian are treated as one language (Serbo-Croatian) in most statistics outside the former Yugoslav republics.
